DREDGING work on the Nadi River will be outsourced by the Land and Mineral Resources Department.
Management director Lakshman Mudaliar said the works to the third stage were being outsourced because the department did not have the capacity to do the job.
“So we are calling for tenders that will attract interested companies to do the job. Stage three works will cost about $4 million and we hope to award the tender by next month,” he said.
Mr Mudaliar said stages one and two had been completed and works on stage three would begin from where they had left off at stage two.
“For stages one and two we have managed to clear up about 1.2 kilometres from the river mouth to the sea and in stage two, we have moved inland from the river mouth by about four kilometres,” he said.
He said works for stage three involved the removal of 380,000 cubic metres from the river to allow for the proper channelling or flow of water.
