Germany: EC Approves Deepening of Elbe River

Hamburg’s Department of State for Economic Affairs reported that the EC has approved deepening of the River Elbe.

The approval for the project is expected to be granted by the following spring.

Hamburg’s government will still have to contemplate particular project related points with its neighboring states of Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony.

The prospect of the project is to expedite round-the-clock port access for ships with draughts to the point of 14.5m.

According to Hamburg’s Green Party the costs could range from €385 million ($515.84 million) to €5oo million and could extend even beyond.
