India: Plan for Development of Two Hub Ports Unveiled

Maritime Agenda 2010-2020 provides for development of two hub ports each on West and East Coasts, i.e., Mumbai (Jawaharlal Nehru Port), Kochi, Chennai & Visakhapatnam.

A request was received from the Chief Minister, Government of Kerala for development of a Port or Shipyard project in the State. The request was examined in the Ministry of Shipping and a Technical Committee has been constituted on 13th February, 2012 to consider/examine and identify the site proposed by the State Government to develop another Major Port-cum-Ship Building Centre at Azhikal in Kerala State.

This information was given by the Union Minister of Shipping, Shri G.K. Vasan in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
