Ireland: Commissioners Unveil Bantry Bay Harbour Dredging Plan

Bantry Bay Harbour Commissioners Harbour Office has invited bidders for dredging and marine works at the Harbour area.

Bantry Bay Harbour Commissioners intends to remove seabed sediment and debris by plough to facilitate the installation of a floating steel pontoon.

The work covered by this contract consists of the removal of approximately 4,925m3 of bed sediment and debris by plough and the installation of a floating steel pontoon using chain and anchors. The material removed from the seabed will be transported to a deposit site adjacent to area being ploughed. The level of the material at the deposit site will be maintained below a particular level.

The contractor will be required to keep a record of all dredging operations; this will entail logging the volumes and locations of material removed and the corresponding volumes and locations of deposited material.

Deposition of dredged material in any undesignated area will not be accepted. The pontoon installation will involve the provision of 16 reinforced concrete anchor blocks and installation of the anchor blocks on the seabed.

Anchor chains will then be connected to the anchor blocks and pontoon lugs. The pontoon (supplied by client) will be moored in Bantry Bay for installation. The contractor will also be required to install a 25m aluminium gangway (supplied by client), which will be delivered to site prior to installation.

The deadline for this tender is May 4, 2012.
