According to jacksonville.com, the Brunswick Bar Pilots Association has written letters to the federal legislators warning that the storms filled in the channel to the point that pilots may have to wait for high tides to move ships to and from the Port of Brunswick.

The Army Corps of Engineers has requested additional funding to dredge this channel.

In another area of the port, the Corps is planning to receive only $2.9 million to operate and maintain the harbor for the 2013 fiscal year, which begins October 1, reports jacksonville.com.

The Army Corps had said it needed $6 million for the harbor, but the Obama administration cut the funding to half.
