USA: Stretch of Mississippi River near Greenville Closed

According to examiner.com, an 11-mile stretch of the Mississippi River, near Greenville, Miss. was closed yesterday.

The water level has forced the river to be closed intermittently since August 11,” the Coast Guard said.

In the meantime, 40 northbound and 57 southbound vessels are stacked up waiting for the channel to be reopened, reports examiner.com.

There are currently four dredgers working to clear a channel from St. Louis to Vicksburg.
