On September 18, the Port of Skagit has celebrated the start of the Swinomish Channel dredging project.

American Construction Co. of Tacoma has won this $1.88 million contract from the Army Corps of Engineers.

The dredging project will continue for approximately five months, and the channel will not be closed during that time.

The shallowest area, at the south end near Goat Island, is expected to be dredged first.
