Monaco to Expand Territory into Sea

Monaco plans to expand its territory by building a six hectare peninsula into the Mediterranean, the city-state’s monarch Prince Albert announced, reports citypress.

The project is planed to be located near the Grimaldi Forum congress centre, and would add 3% to Mocano’s territory.

I will pay particular attention to ensure the project respects the strict environmental rules that I will impose, during the construction as well as during the use of the new surfaces created,” said Albert.

Land reclamation is done in Monaco because land is very scarce, as the Southwestern European nation is comparatively tiny, at 0.76 mi² (1.98 km²). To solve this problem and continue economic development, for years the city has been adding to its total land area by reclaiming land from the sea.
