USA: Army Corps Hosts Public Meeting on Repairs to Marseilles Dam

Army Corps Hosts Public Meeting on Repairs to Marseilles Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will host a public meeting May 21 to discuss ongoing repairs at the Marseilles Dam and flood risk mitigation for the Marseilles community.

The meeting, which will begin at 6 p.m., is open to everyone and will take place at the Marseilles American Legion, 571 Rutland Street, Marseilles, Ill.

The Marseilles Dam was damaged during an incident April 18 when seven barges broke loose from a tow during historic flooding on the Illinois River. The historic flooding affected many communities on the Illinois River including Marseilles. The Rock Island District operates and maintains the Marseilles Lock and Dam and has constructed a rock dike to assist in temporary repairs of the dam.

Representatives of the Rock Island District will be on hand during the public meeting to address concerns and discuss ongoing efforts related to the Marseilles community.
