Long Beach Island Replenishment Project

With funds from the Sandy Relief Act signed into law, the US Army Corps of Engineers is restoring and will complete an existing dune and berm project put in place before Hurricane Sandy hit the New Jersey coast.

Crews are busy placing millions of cubic yards of sand as part of the Corps efforts to repair and restore the Rockaway coastline.

The sections that had been in place prior to the storm protected the properties behind them, whereas the communities on either side of the dunes were significantly damaged by Sandy.

The project provides coastal storm risk reduction to densely populated communities and infrastructure located along the shoreline on the Rockaway Peninsula.
