Port Otago to Test Dredger’s Productivity

Port Otago will begin a month-long trial of harbor dredging in the following days to assess the suitability of its dredger New Era to undertake the ”Next Generation” dredging scheme.

According to Port Otago Chief Executive Geoff Plunket, this trial is scheduled to last until the end of April and will determine New Era’s effectiveness and productivity.

The dredger will work in five areas in the lower harbor where materials had not previously been dredged, announced Otago Daily Times.

This will give a better understanding of how well the New Era can handle these materials,” Mr Plunket said.

The trial dredging would be carried out from Monday to Friday in conjunction with usual maintenance dredging within the harbor.
