Patrick Lecture Series on Louisiana Coastal Studies

The 13th Annual Patrick Lecture Series, presented by the LSU Coastal Studies Institute and the LSU Graduate School, will be held on April 13-14, 2015.

The guest speaker will be Edward B. Barbier, the John S. Bugas Professor of Economics at the University of Wyoming. Dr. Barbier is one of the top 20 cited environmental economists globally and will be at LSU discussing the importance of coastal habitat restoration and storm protection.

Having been a member of the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority’s Science and Engineering Board, he helped develop Louisiana’s 2012 Coastal Master Plan for a Sustainable Coast.

Familiar with the situation facing the Louisiana coast, Barbier will try to offer a possible solution to the retreating coastline and explain the economic investment necessary to restore and protect the coast.

Dr. Barbier will present two lectures titled, “Living on the Edge: Protecting & Restoring Coastal Habitats” and “Storm Protection Service of Estuarine & Coastal Ecosystems“.

Both lectures will be held in the Dalton J. Woods Auditorium at the School of the Coast & Environment building on the LSU campus.
