Siport21 at Port Congress

Siport21, a maritime and port engineering consulting company, has presented three studies at the XIII Spanish Coastal and Port Engineering Congress, held in Aviles, Gijon.

These studies are examples of the latest projects developed by the company; Maritime Traffic Analysis in the Port of Bahia Blanca, Largest Oil Tankers Access to the Port of Langosteira and Valemax Bulkcarriers Access to the Port of Gijon.

The first study was “Development of the Port of Bahia Blanca (Argentina), Design of Dredging Works and Traffic Analysis”.

The main object of the paper is to show the importance of the combination of high level simulation techniques (ship manoeuvring, passing ships interaction, traffic flow simulation study) to monitor the performance of the port, taking into account environmental conditions as well as the provided facilities, to come to a balanced masterplan of the Port of Bahia Blanca.

Taking into account the possibility of the access of largest bulkcarriers vessels up to 400.000 DWT (Valemax) at the new North Dock of the Extension of Port of Gijon, Siport21 carried out a study based on the following aspects:

  • verification of the channel access and basin dimensions;
  • feasibility of the entrance and exit manoeuvres;
  • response in emergency manoeuvres;
  • tug requirements;
  • operability and limits conditions;
  • geometric restrictions of the vessel at berth;
  • assessment of vertical requirements.
