Picture of the Day: BAM Milestone in Dundee

BAM Nuttall have recently completed a major milestone on the V&A Museum in Dundee, namely the construction of the coffer dam which will allow the structure to be built out into the Tay.

The selection of the right plant and equipment was crucial to meet the tight deadlines, with the summer embargo of works on the river to avoid any impact on the harbor seal breeding season.

Long reach excavator specialist, WM Plant Hire, provided a 45 tonne CAT long reach machine with a reach of 22 meters that was able to dredge the material from the cofferdam and build a safe working platform.

One particular challenge for the operator was the excavation underwater, requiring a great deal of skill and accuracy only gained from their experience of marine dredging operations.

With the excavation completed on schedule, special fill material was used to construct a platform for the next phase of the works.
