Napier Dredging in Full Swing

Dredging operations at the Napier Port’s shipping channel are currently underway, the Coastguard Hawke’s Bay announced.

This dredging project, being undertaken by the trailing suction hopper dredger MV Pelican, started on June 26 and will last approximately two weeks.

Disposal of dredged material will take place at both the inshore and offshore disposal areas. Which disposal area will be used will depend upon the area the material is dredged from and the state of the tide and swell.

Regional harbormaster Phil Norman has warned all vessels in the harbor to keep clear of the dredger during the project.
