Laupahoehoe Harbor Project Kicks Off

Officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Honolulu District, Honolulu-based contractor American Marine Corporation, and members of the community attended a traditional Hawaiian site-blessing on Monday to inaugurate the start of the $2.5 million Laupahoehoe Small Boat Harbor Repair Project.

The Corps and the contractor will conduct the $2.5 million repair job on the breakwater at Laupahoehoe Harbor. These maintenance repairs will rehabilitate and repair the existing breakwater and wave absorber and will require grouting of the breakwater centerline (ocean floor to crest) and repair dislodged armor stones.

American Marine Corporation will also install a temporary bridge over the existing county bridge leading to Laupahoehoe Point. That work is included in the approximately half year project timeline.

The temporary bridge will support the weight of the construction equipment and materials, and will remain in place for the duration of the project.
