Great Success for 8th ICE Conference in Amsterdam

The eighth ICE Coastal Management conference, which was held recently in Amsterdam, brought together 220 engineers, scientists and coastal management professionals from over thirty countries across the world.

The main focus of the event was on current issues, research and practical applications.

Over 60 speakers from 27 different countries presented their papers, including notable presentations from Jan-Hendrik Dronkers, Director General, Rijkswaterstaat and Liz van Duin, Director for Network Development, North Sea and Delta.

In addition to the presentations, attendees were able to view a poster display of 20 noteworthy coastal projects from around the world. They were also able to take part in a technical visit to the Delft Sand Motor and the Engineering Department at Delft University of Technology.

On the final day the winners of the conference awards were announced as follows:

  • Best Paper: Dr Shimrit Perkol-Finkel | Blue is the New Green – Harnessing Urban Coastal Infrastructure for Ecological Enhancement;
  • Best Poster: Beth Riley | Mapping Salt Marsh Margins – a Methodological Comparison;
  • Best Presentation: Carrie Baron | Changing Perspectives – Exploring and Implementing the Realities of Sea Level Rise in the Coastal Community of Surrey British Columbia.
