Panama’s New Pacific Access Channel Meets Culebra Cut

The Panama Canal Expansion Program is one step closer to completion after the new Pacific Access Channel finally met with the Culebra Cut.

The North Plug was blasted last Thursday, 24 December, leading the way to the removal of the plug that is separating Culebra Cut from the new Pacific Access Channel.

After the blasting, Panama Canal Dredging Division will begin the removal of the entire plug, uniting the new locks in the Pacific with the Gatun Lake.

The project will be completed with the help of backhoe dredges Alberto Aleman Zubieta and Rialto M. Christensen, both owned by the Autoridad del Canal de Panama (ACP).
