Korsakov Port Development Plans Include Dredging

The press center of Sakhalin government has just announced that the new passenger terminal at the Korsakov Port will welcome first passengers in two years.

The designing phase will take about a year and one more year will be needed for the construction works.

Speaking about the project, Oleg Kozhemyako, the Region Governor, said: “The modern passenger terminal should become a landmark of the renovated port. The main thing is the comfort of passengers travelling by both domestic and international routes.”

“We suggest building the terminal at the first berth of the port’s southern district. It will cover some 1,000 square meters,” added Vasily Kniglitsky, one of the owners of commercial seaport Korsakov.

The Korsakov Port development plan includes the construction of new quay walls and some dredging work. These operations will be carried out by a joint stock company which is to be set up in the nearest future.

Implementation of each project will be supervised by working groups headed by related ministers.
