Carolina and Kure Beach Nourishment Works in Full Swing

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reporting that much progress has been made on the coastal storm damage reduction work being performed on both Carolina Beach and Kure Beach.

Favorable weather for the last couple of weeks has allowed work to move along steadily.

The Phase 1 of this beach re-nourishment project was completed earlier in March. This phase involved dredging from the ocean and placing sand on the beach from Ocean Blvd. going south through Kure Beach.

Phase 2 of the project is now underway with the contractor Marinex Construction, Inc. expecting to complete the works by April 30th.

According to some local media reports, a second dredger has been brought in so that work could be done simultaneously in the two towns in order to complete the project before turtle nesting season begins on May 1.
