Stone Harbor Update: Dredging of North Basin Completed

The Stone Harbor Property Owners Association (SHPOA) has just announced the completion of phase one of the Stone Harbor Maintenance Dredging Project.

During the phase 1, dredging of the North Basin was completed with the removal of 8,999 cubic yards of dredged material and dredging of Shelter Haven was partially completed with 5,951 cubic yards dredged so far.

According to SHPOA, a shoal along the south side of the entrance channel remains to be dredged.

The NJDEP suspended the dredging project permit at the completion of the phase 1 for non-compliance with the permit conditions and unanticipated environmental impacts.

Stone Harbor and COWI North America Inc. (the project engineer) are working together with Sevenson Environmental Services to resolve these issues and obtain NJDEP permit reauthorization for Phase 2 of the dredging project.

As part of the reauthorization procedure, a permit modification package will be submitted to the NJDEP and USACE in July that will include a plan for the phase 2 dredging.

This process will include a public comment period and Stone Harbor plans to host a public meeting in August (Date/Time TBD) to present the Phase 2 plan to the public.

Phase 2 is schedule to be completed between September 2016 and March 2017 (pending permit reauthorization).
