IADC Presents Young Author Award at PIANC-COPEDEC Event

The International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) has presented the IADC Young Author Award at the PIANC-COPEDEC IX conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Lucas Silveira, manager of Coastal & Ports Engineering of CB&I, received the prestigious award.

He was awarded the prize of €1,000, a certificate of recognition and a small sculpture for his paper – “Integrated Method for the Development of Optimal Channel Dredging Project – Case Study: Terminal Portuário do Mearim”.

René Kolman, secretary general of IADC, said: “The paper committee shortlisted four excellent papers and it was read and ranked by the PR committee of IADC.”

Kolman said that the reason Silveira was chosen as the winner because “the winning paper was well-written, well-presented and he answered all questions in an understandable way.”

“The theory can be applied in practice and in this case for the development of an optimal channel dredging project.”

The annual IADC Young Author Award is given to stimulate the promotion of new ideas and to encourage young people working in the dredging industry and related fields.
