Hilton Head Island Beach Nourishment Project Advances

Work to repair hurricane damage to the previously constructed beach along the south central oceanfront (North and South Forest Beach) is complete, reports the Town of Hilton Head Island.

The Town’s contractor, Weeks Marine Inc., has rebuilt the beach to the point where they were prior to Hurricane Matthew near Shipyard/Palmetto Dunes.

As a result of the impact of the storm, Town hereby announces a change in the limits to two (2) of the four (4) of the acceptance segments along the central oceanfront portion of the work,” said HHI in the release.

Currently, the active work area is near Wendover Dunes in southern Palmetto Dunes.

Now, work is will advance approximately 3,500 feet to near Captain’s Walk before the dredge is repositioned and beach fill operations begin near Singleton Beach. This represents a shift in the breakpoint only.

According to the Town, the completion of this revised section is expected within the next 10 days.
