Port Fourchon Maintenance Dredging About to Begin

Port Fourchon Commission has just announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will start maintenance dredging work inside the jetties, heading south into the port.

According to the notice, the Port Commission and Port Fourchon Harbor Police are working with the Corps and dredging contractor Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company to ensure that this dredging project goes smoothly “with as little interruption to vessel traffic as possible”.

Starting sometimes this week, the maintenance dredging project will be complete in approximately 8-10 days.

For the duration of the project, the dredging work area will be designated as a safety zone within 500 feet of the dredge.

Mariners must travel at their lowest safe speed to minimize wake and ensure operational safety. Please be aware of the numerous work and support vessels associated with this project as well as floating and submerged dredge pipelines depositing dredged material east of Belle Pass,” the Port Commission said.

The Port Commission also announced that there will be no channel closures as part of this project.
