VIDEO: Bad Weather Impact on Dare County Beach Operations

The County of Dare has just provided the latest update on the Beach Nourishment operations in the Town of Kitty Hawk and Buxton.

After a temporary cease of operations due to bad weather and sea conditions in the Town of Kitty Hawk, crews with Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company are working their way south from the subline landing located near Balchen St for an undetermined distance pending possible weather delays.

Weeks Marine, the contractor for the Buxton project, reported that swell from Hurricane Jose is expected to impact the Buxton borrow area in the coming days, with waves reaching as high as 12 feet.

That is why the company decided on Friday to tow the dredge C.R. McCaskill out of the area and head to Norfolk. The dredge will remain in the safe harbor in Norfolk until the weather passes.
