This course is useful for engineers involved in the design of coastal structures specially breakwaters and/or the supervision of coastal structure projects. Knowledge about the coastal processes such as wind, waves, tides and tidal currents is necessary. Due to ongoing developments in approach, methods and tools of designing of coastal and port structures, UNESCO-IHE offers two short courses on these subjects (the other course is Port Planning and Infrastructure Design). The main goal of these two short courses is to familiarize the participants with the design of layout of a port as well as the port related structures in the port area or offshore such as breakwaters and berthing facilities.
