US-based dredging firm Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. has entered the Indian market by inking an alliance with the Hyderabad-based Indu Projects Ltd, an infrastructure solutions provider.
With a fleet of about 50 dredgers, including 25 cutter suction dredgers, the company has the requisite knowhowto handle capital dredging works at ports, involving underwater rock blasting operations.
Maintaining that the country had a huge market for capital dredging, given the gap between the targets set by the Ministry of Shipping and what had been actually done, a senior executive of Indu Group averred that the new venture would commence taking part in capital dredging tenders of Visakhapatnam, Tuticorin and Mumbai Ports.
Great Lakes also possesses a sizeable fleet of specialised dredging equipment for excavation and transport of a full range of underwater materials, including silt, sand, clay and rock.
