USA: Florida’s Governor Spends Workday at Port of Miami

Florida’s governor is checking heavy construction equipment waiting to be loaded onto a cargo vessel at the Port of Miami.

Gov. Rick Scott spends Friday morning working with Seaboard Marine, an ocean transportation company and the largest tenant at the port. Later Friday, he’ll be working aboard Carnival Cruise Lines’ Imagination.

Scott said a dredging project to allow newer, larger cargo ships to enter the port will bring 30,000 permanent jobs to Miami.

The start of drilling for a $1 billion tunnel project at the port was scheduled for Monday but has been temporarily delayed, which Scott called “disappointing.” The tunnel will connect the port with Miami’s expressways.

Since August, Scott has spending “workdays” across the state to work jobs with regular Floridians.
