US Ports and Maritime Team to Visit India in February

A senior official from the Obama government is set to lead the first ever US ports and maritime technology trade industry mission to India next month.

The U.S. Foreign Commercial Service Executive-led Ports and Maritime Trade Mission to India February 20-24, 2011 will help U.S. companies participate in the rapidly expanding opportunities for ports and maritime related sales. Most equipment at India’s more than 200 ports is obsolete.

The Indian Government has approved investments of $66 billion in the port sector and $27 billion in the shipping sector to update equipment and increase India’s port capacity from 1 billion tons to 3.2 billion tons by 2020.

Companies in cargo handling equipment, port security and maritime technology equipment will have the best chances to find future business from the mission.
