South Carolina’s Blue Ribbon Committee on Shoreline Management will meet March 13 at 9 a.m. in Room 307 of the Gressette Building in Columbia.

The meeting agenda includes a brief staff presentation and continued committee discussion regarding the issuance of emergency orders and the use of sandbags to protect coastal property. The committee has set aside a 15-minute public comment period to begin at 9:15 a.m.

Appointed by the DHEC Board in October 2010, the Blue Ribbon Committee on Shoreline Management is comprised of 16 members who represent a broad range of stakeholder interests. It will consider the findings of the DHEC Shoreline Change Advisory Committee and develop specific regulatory recommendations to enhance the efficient management of coastal resources, improve coastal planning, and prepare South Carolina for emerging challenges and economic opportunities for the state’s beaches and estuarine shorelines.
