The Union Minister of Shipping, Shri G.K. Vasan informed the Rajya Sabha today in a written reply to a question that the Government has requested all coastal States in the country to explore the possibility to set up a new Major Port or a new Ship Building yard or a composite Port-Cum-Shipbuilding yard their States and submit a comprehensive proposal to the Ministry of Shipping.
The Minister further stated that the proposals have been received from the State Governments of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat.
Technical committees have been constituted to identify the suitable locations proposed by the State Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, said the Minister.
