Nigeria: Magodo Canal Dredging Kicks Off

As National Mirror reports, the Federal Government has commenced dredging and opening up of Magodo canal as one of the constituency projects inherited by Lagos East Senatorial District.

Senator Gbenga Ashafa stated that this dredging project is to address erosion and flood in the area which, if not checked could wreak ecological havoc on lives and properties in Magodo Estates and its environs.

One of the objectives of the projects is to prevent flood and erosion by calling the attention of relevant agencies of government to work together for the protection of properties and preservation of lives. It is better we prevent erosion and flooding that could wreak havoc on our people rather than wait for disaster to occur and manage it thereafter,” he said.

He also stated that the project would drain the entire Omole and Magodo axis and create free flow of water into the Lagoon to completely control erosion and flood especially during the rainy season.
