USA: SS Keewatin Launched Yesterday
The SS Keewatin was launched yesterday afternoon on a journey back to its port of origin in Georgian Bay, WHTC reports.
Two tug boats slowly towed the 105-year-old, 350-foot vintage steamship through Kalamazoo Lake, and the vessel is expected to get into the waters of Lake Michigan sometime today.
Canadian interests paid more than a million dollars last fall to purchase the Keewatin so it can be refurbished into a museum at Port McNicoll, Ontario; part of that money paid for long-needed dredging in order to allow the ship to leave.
