The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded a $700,000 contract to Meyer Contracting, Inc., of Maple Grove, Minn., June 6 to repair levees in Velva, N.D., that were damaged during the 2011 flood.

The repairs include removing concrete rubble used to reinforce the temporary levees during the flood; re-shaping and setting back approximately 400 feet of existing levee; placing riprap along the damaged stretch of levee; and miscellaneous underground utility work. Additionally, riprap placement will be done at four separate locations along the flood control project in Velva where minor scour and/or erosion occurred during the flood.

Construction is likely to begin in July and the work is expected to be complete this fall.
