USA: Blind Pass Dredging Underway

The Blind Pass dredging project is due to start as soon as a window of weather permits the equipment to move in, reports island-reporter.com.

Lee County is starting a large dredging project to increase water flow to the area.

Florida Dredge and Dock finished the restoration of Fort Myers Beach and is now beginning the dredging process for Blind Pass.

The county admits dredging will have to be repeated over the years, but says it’s a process that has the least amount of impact.

The opening of the Blind Pass waterway will support the survival of sea life and protect shorebirds.

The pass was reopened after an extensive dredging project in July 2009.

We began monitoring for this project on April 15 so that we could determine that any nests within the dredging construction zone could be relocated before the nests are laid,” said Amanda Bryant, SCCF biologist.

Blind Pass is a famous Florida State Beach suitable for activities that include fishing and more. Blind Pass is located in Lee County, Florida.
