The Netherlands: CEDA Working Group on Ecosystem Services Holds First Meeting

CEDA Working Group on Ecosystem Services Holds First Meeting

The CEDA Working Group on Ecosystem Services (WGES) has their first meeting this week in Delft at the CEDA Headquarters.

WGES will produce a CEDA Information Paper on ecosystem services in the context of dredging and the construction of marine and fresh water infrastructure.

The aim of the paper is to explain ecosystem services and its relevance to dredging and the construction of water based infrastructure and by doing so to contribute to the wider debate on the application of the ecosystem service approach from the perspective of the dredging community. This could help by bringing the discussion on ES from an academic level to a dredging-applied level.

Members of the WGES come from 5 different countries and have a broad range of expertise. The composition of the group mirrors that of the CEDA membership and includes experts representing government bodies, consultancy and research institutions, engineering firms, ports and dredging companies.

The WG is expected to complete their assignment in May 2013.
