USA: Grafton to Get Dredging Money

Grafton to Get Dredging Money

The Grafton City officials have learned they will receive state grants to help with projects that have been high on their priority list for several years, according to stltoday.com.

The city will receive a $472,000 grant to pay for dredging a channel that would allow resumption of ferry service between Grafton and St. Charles County.

That grant will also help dredge the Grafton Harbor marina to its original depth of 10 feet.

We’re extremely happy,” Mayor Tom Thompson said. “It just solidifies the future of our area in terms of jobs.”

The dredging would remedy siltation of a channel between two islands that ultimately caused the Grafton Ferry to discontinue operation in 2010.

All the grants are from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
