USA: Salvage Operation of Arthur J Nears End

Salvage Operation of Arthur J Nears End

Oily product and other hazardous materials pulled from Lake Huron are piled together, for proper removal and disposal, aboard the barge Parker J as clean up and salvage operations continue.

The oily product recovered from Lake Huron was from the 110-foot dredge barge Arthur J, which sank in Lake Huron July 19.

The Arthur J and the tug Madison sank in Lake Huron one mile off the shore of Lakeport, Mich., July 19. 2012.

As final cleanup of boom and remaining bottom debris from the site are on-going, the boating public is reminded that there is still a 500-yard safety zone around the salvage site that is being enforced by Coast Guard small boats.
