Port of Seattle Invests in Development

The Port of Seattle’s Terminal 18, run by SSA Terminals, will have three more Super Post Panamax cranes, allowing it to handle the largest container vessels in the world.

SSA is making Terminal 18 big-ship ready for the next generation of ocean-going vessels,” said Port Commission President Gael Tarleton. “This is the kind of investment that will help the region’s companies create 100,000 family-wage jobs over the next 25 years as they compete in a global economy.

As some of the largest container handling cranes in the world, they are 267 feet high, and can extend out to handle the new Triple E Class vessels, which can carry up to 18,000 TEU (20-foot equivalent units) with a width of 210 feet, or 24 containers.
