Salvage Crews Transport Sunken Dredger to Maintenance Yard

The dredge Arthur J was successfully transported and moored at Malcolm Marine Dock in St. Clair, Mich., Monday, at about 2 p.m.

The Arthur J, a 100-foot dredge, sank approximately two miles off the shore of Lakeport, Mich., in Lake Huron July 19, 2012.

Salvage crews completed dive operations and prepared for transit through the St. Clair River at approximately 12:15 p.m. The dredge was positioned between two tugs and barges as it was moved from the sunken location to the maintenance dock for safety.

During the transit, the responsible party had emergency preparations ready in case the vessel started to take on water.
