Construction of a $5.8 million and a 1,700-foot-long underwater dam at Alliance in Plaquemines Parish, using sediment dredged from the Mississippi River just upstream, is about to begin, NOLA reports.
According to FedBizOpps.gov, the Army Corps of Engineers awarded a contract for the dredging work on this project to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co., LLC, of Oak Ridge, Ill.
Col. Edward Fleming, the Corps New Orleans District commander, said that the Great Lakes dredger Texas is already putting a pipeline in place at the site.
