USA: Army Corps Awards Contract for Steele Bayou Channel Relocation

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District, recently awarded phase 2 of the Steele Bayou Channel Relocation to Tri-County Contractors, Inc. of Jackson, Mississippi.

The work is part of the flood control efforts in the Yazoo River Basin and will consist of constructing the Steele Bayou channel relocation in the Yazoo National Wildlife Refuge in Washington County, Mississippi.

Principal features of the work include excavating approximately 1.72 linear miles of new channel, raising 3.6 linear miles of existing earthen dikes and levees, constructing 3,800 linear feet of new levee, and relocating 1,476 linear feet of a county gravel road.

There will also be various realignments of ditches/small streams and establishment of new turf.
