UK: Trial Dredging of Falmouth Harbour Starts

Trial Dredging of Falmouth Harbour Starts

BBC News reports that the controversial Falmouth Harbour dredging trial has begun.

The work, commissioned by the Falmouth Harbour Commissioners, will be undertaken by specialist dredging contractors, GPS Marine.

800 jobs could be created if more cruise ships use the harbour,” say Falmouth Harbour Commissioners.

Environmentalists and fishermen are concerned that the fishing beds and a rare algae would be damaged by the dredging.

The £200,000 trial will measure the potential environmental impact of the work.

The results will be crucial in deciding if the controversial move can go ahead.
