Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC) Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Bradford, today invited expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced organisations for works associated with the $1.6 billion Port Capacity Project.
Invitations are being sought in connection with the design and construction of the project’s maritime and road connection components.
“Both these tenders are significant, large scale packages and will require the highest level of professional expertise, experience and resources in order to satisfy the stringent demands of the $1.6 billion Port Capacity Project” , Mr Bradford said.
Together with design consultants Aurecon and Arup, PoMC will be seeking to advance the procurement processes to ensure the expansion of Victoria’s container and automotive capacity in line with trade demands.
“ The Port of Melbourne is Australia’s largest container, automotive and general cargo port handling around 7000 containers and 1000 motor vehicles a day on average. Responsible port infrastructure planning and development makes provision for additional short to medium term capacity a necessity.
“One of the many challenges will be to carry out these large scale works without disrupting existing shipping operations at Webb Dock.
“PoMC will carefully stage the works in order to ensure continuity of trade, including vital shipping links to Tasmania” , Mr Bradford said.
The two tender packages will see the construction of roads and landside infrastructure, together with wharves, marine works and dredging inside Webb Dock.
The re-development of Webb Dock’s new container and automotive terminals are expected to be operational in late 2016.
