Improvement Scheme Underway at West Beach

Clacton’s main holiday beach is getting important maintenance work carried out to the seawall.

Tendring District Council (TDC) is undertaking the improvements at West Beach at the same time as drainage is being upgraded along the Lower Promenade in a similar location.

The Council’s own engineering staff are carrying out the scheme using a 35 ton excavator to dig out the sand which will then all be replaced afterwards.

Extra support is being provided for the capping beam along the top of the seawall which will be made uniform underneath the beam.

The project started last Monday and will be completed early in the New Year.

The Lower Promenade is closed off to pedestrians until the end of this week, weather permitting, but then will be reopened as the rest of the work will take place from the beach itself.

Nick Turner, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Coastal Defence, said that residents will have noticed a number of small schemes taking place at Holland-on-Sea, Frinton and Clacton over recent months.

We are taking the opportunity to carry out important maintenance and upgrading during the out of season period which will benefit residents and visitors alike,” he said.

“It is preparing the areas for next year and people have already started to notice the difference.”
