UAE: Khalifa Port Officially Launched

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Wednesday expressed his pride at the completion of projects that are of benefit to the citizens of the homeland and that strengthen the national economy. He made his remarks when inaugurating Khalifa Port, north-east of Abu Dhabi City.

Present also were H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, H.H. Sheikh Omar bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Executive Council Member, Dr. Sheikh Saeed bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saif Al Nahyan, Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs, and a number of Sheikhs, Executive Council members, high ranking military and civilian officials, businessmen, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the UAE and guests.

Dr. Sultan Jaber, chairman of Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) , said in a statement :” It is an honor for me to welcome you in the official inauguration of Khalifa Port, this economic giant project that has been implemented in record time to join the highly advanced seaports sector in the UAE and contribute in boosting its important role .” He explained that the establishment of Khalifa Port and Khalifa Industrial Zone will contribute to keep pace with the economic growth the UAE is currently witnessing.

He added that the project will handle all types of cargoes with a focus on dealing with huge ships as the depth of harbour and the canal leading to it reaches to 16 meters which can increase to reach 18 meters.

Khalifa Port was designed to be developed and expanded into many phases should demand exist. Phase one will have the capacity to handle 2.5 million TEUs and can increase to 15 million.
