The Kansas City District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded its final levee rehabilitation contract Friday, January 25, to repair flood damage from the historic flooding of the Missouri River which took place in 2011.
A contract was awarded to C.L Richardson Construction Company, Inc. of Ashland, Mo., for approximately $31,000 to repair emergency repairs at the Overton-Wooldridge Levee District No. 1 of Cooper and Moniteau County.
The notice to proceed is expected to be given to the contractors this week. It is scheduled to be complete in late March/early April, weather pending.
The levee rehab projects are a cooperative effort between local levee sponsors and the Corps of Engineers. The sponsor plays a vital role for non-federal levee rehabilitation projects and is responsible for 20 percent of the construction cost, the right of way and the material necessary to reconstruct the levee.
The Corps has awarded a total of 30 contracts representing 47 levee segments/systems since January of 2012. Eighteen projects are complete, and 11 of them are substantially complete—only minor seeding and mulching remain.
