Mr. Attaollah Sadr, the Managing Director of the Port and Maritime Organization(PMO) said that currently as many as 150 projects are underway in Iranian ports worth $ 1.6 billion.

He also added that the fund for running these projects have been procured by the PMO.

He also noted that there are numerous projects being presently executed by the private sector in construction of port, berths, terminals, breakwater as well as dredging which worth approximately this amount (i.e $ 1.6 billion).

Some 120 projects have been put into operation, Mr. Sadr said and some 72 other projects are due to be completed this year.

Implementation of the port projects has dramatically increased the capacity of Iranian ports particularly in the south of the country. Although Iran has been sanctioned by the western country, it has not stopped its development projects in its ports.

Iranian ports have a great share in the national economy due to their strategic positions.
