Progress continues to be made on the dredging of the Hatteras ferry channel.

Cottrell Contracting was hired by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to clear the channel so that the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry route can resume.

Ferry service has been suspended since Jan. 18 due to shallow channel conditions.

The Dredge Richmond ran into equipment and weather-related issues this week, but was able to continue work. A survey is being conducted by the USACE to determine how much progress was made this week.

More information will be released as soon as it is obtained.

Dredging began in the Hatteras ferry channel Dec. 1, 2012.
