Blunt Meets with Community Leaders to Discuss Levee Project

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) met this week with leaders from the Community Alliance of St. Joseph and the St. Joseph Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.

During the meeting, Blunt was updated on the activities of the 139th Airlift Wing at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base and concerns regarding the city’s difficulties in repairing a levee along the Missouri River for flood protection.

Approximately 20 participants representing the St. Joseph Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce attended the meeting, including Steven Johnston, Director of the Community Alliance of St. Joseph; Bruce Woody, City Manager for the City of St. Joseph; and Jody Carlson, Public Works & Transportation Director for the City of St. Joseph.

“Flood protection for people and property should always be a primary goal in river policy. We had a very constructive discussion about this issue, and I will continue working to ensure that this important levee is repaired so that we can continue to improve the 139th Airlift Wing and the entire community can return to their daily lives,” Blunt stated.
